Cast: Jimmy Shergill, Kim Sharma, Kabir Sadanand, Farid Amiri, Ahmed Khan, Sri Vallabh Vyas, Vinod Nagpal; Director: Dilip Sood If you thought the title Chhodon Na Yaar would dissuade cinegoers from seeing this Jimmy Sheirgill and Kim Sharma starrer, think again, for the director of the film Dilip Sood explains the relevance of the title. Chhodon Na Yaar is the favourite one-liner of the youth of today, who believe in leading a carefree life, says the director, who is upbeat about his film’s release that he touts as a youthful supernatural thriller. The film tells the story of a group of enthusiastic post-graduate students of mass communication who venture into a supernatural journey. Characters of the film are very simple and close to real life. Even Kim Sharma is being shown as a salwar kurta clad girl. The film’s music is already making waves, especially the Kasak number which has gone quite well with Indians living abroad: Dilip Sood The director avers that his film is neither a formula flick nor an offbeat one. Rather he categorises it as a light film with great music. The film’s music is already making waves abroad and in India, especially the Kasak number which has gone quite well with Indians living abroad. Chhodon Na Yaar also brings together Jimmy Sheirgill and Kim Sharma, who have a bonding since the time they did their first film, Mohabbatein, together. Kim and I share a great comfort level. She is a great performer. The best thing about shooting for the film was we never had to strain to get into the skin of the character, says Jimmy. Corroborates Kim, Jimmy and I have become so used to working with each other that it doesn’t seem that we are working (laughs). I especially enjoyed the outdoor in Manali. I was the only girl among the bunch of boys. We had a blast, adds Kim. My role in Maachis was small. It got me critical acclaim, but it did not make me popular among the masses. I wasn’t even be recognised by people. When asked about the kind of films Jimmy would like to do again, the actor mentions Yahaan, Haasil and Lage Raho Munnabhai in his favourites list. And what about Maachis, that got him critical acclaim? That was a small role. It got me critical acclaim, but it did not make me popular among the masses. I looked quite different in that get-up and couldn’t even be recognised by people. Jimmy, however, still pines for a solo hit, which he is yet to add to his acting kitty. I would say that a solo hit is very crucial for an actor’s career. Apart from quality of the film, its packaging and promotion is of paramount importance. If it is not promoted well, even a good film may lose points at box-office, he signs off.

--> Jimmy Shergill's most ambitious and highly awaited venture of this year 'Chhodon Naa Yaar' is high-voltage suspense thriller that embarks male-bonding in its plot and narration. It's story about Ravi (Jimmy Sheirgill), Shiv (Kabir) and Sunny (Farid), three adventure-loving guys who venture into filmmaking about a myth prevalent in the northern hills of India. It shapes out into grueling and spine-chilling suspense thrilling experience for all of them with some innovative feel. Year 2007 has proved inconsequential for Jimmy Shergill as he faced disappointment with his disastrous debacles in films like 'Victoria No. 203', 'Eklavya-the royal guard', 'Raqueeb' and 'Delhi Heights'. 'Chhodon Naa Yaar' is expected to be a big break and possible resurrection in his sagging career. Dilip Sood directs his debut that also stars Kim Sharma, Mehak, Ahmed Khan, Vallabh Vyas and Vinod Nagpal in supporting roles. Anand Raj Anand has composed original musical soundtracks that highlight the youthful spirit and carefree feel of fun-loving youths in its compositions. 'Chhodon Naa Yaar' has eight original soundtracks that can be heard on Big music cassettes and CD's. Kasak (2 Versions) : Anand Raj Anand is one of those music directors who has been trying hard to establish himself in the cadre of composer-turned-singer but hasn't met with desired results so far. This time he tries to impress with his sonorously echoing baritones in delectably poised emotional number "Kasak" that comes with sauntering paced arrangements and free-flowing choral backdrop. The penetrative lyrical works delivered by Anand Raj Anand along with folksy based musical backdrop brighten some hope but all it ends up as a mediocre sentimental soundtrack. "Kasak (remix)" is stereotypically conceived as a promotional video song where all the clippings of film would be figuratively placed to create buzz for the film. It has typical "club" remixes touch where loud and echoing disco beat fillers collage effectively with the original rhythmical structure of the song. Talwar Re (3 Versions) :Daler Mehndi's sung "Talwar Re" is undoubtedly the momentous feature and feat of the album and by far the finest track by this Indi-Pop singer in recent times. Its major highlight is catchy "bhangra" beats work that collides impulsively with Daler's effervescent voice and razor sharp lyrical flow in making it mass-friendly track. Sunidhi Chauhan's racy vocals are an added delight that gives this dancing track more "masti" and fun in its later interludes. The composition has been conceived mainly as "disco-qawaali" singing format where two singers confront each other with quizzically penned wordings and one-liners. Anand Raj Anand's last memorable work "Ek Look" ('Aryan') was also big inclination on "bhangra" works and this too has the similar zing that can really work magic for the film. Like "Ek Look", the composer as well as the producer has felt so special about the number that it comes in three fast-paced versions to entice Gen X listeners and has been aggressively promoted for the film's success. "Talwar Re (Dhol remix)" is even more entertaining for its thumping and thunderous Punjabi "dhol" and energetic hip-hop infused in it to give rhythmical sumptuous flow on dancing floors. It's likely to be a DJ's delight version and is expected to be hitting high with loud volumes on festive occasions. "Talwar Re (remix)" has more urbane feel with bouncy English lyrics ("You freak my mind…") than folksy punches that can really fuel dancing floors in discotheques and pubs. It has added Anand Raj Anad's vocals that retard the frenzied pace of this frothy number and come out as most feeble interpretation of original composition out of three versions. Jhoom Le :"Jhoom Le", a coarsely conceived sensuous number by Sunidhi Chauhan, has jarring and ear-piercing orchestration flow that coordinates discourteously with routine lyrical works. Its traditional Arabian-cum-westernized outlook is overtly heard in the composer's last few albums and fails to entice or excite listeners. This another "run of the mill" hot and sensuous situational number proves to be a sore thumb and big disappointment. Zindagi : After competent Sunidhi Chauhan, it's talented Shaan getting wasted in yet another mediocre number "Zindagi", song about carefree youthful emotions sung in a typical crooner style. Shaan's energetic vocals are delight to ears but the cyclic keyboards and synthesizers with routine lyrics are a big disappointing. Anand Raj Anand has failed to materialize the trendy hip-hop and rock musical buzz and has tried to rejuvenate 90's disco feel in this average sounding soundtrack. Luta Hai Zamaane Ne : After Daler Mehndi's "Talwar Re", Sukhwinder Singh's impressive vocal rendition in "Luta Hai Zamaane Ne" proves another saving grace for this low profile album. It has melancholic Sufi "qawwali" singing textures with some meaningful lyrical flows. After sensitively paced "Katara Katara" ('Apna Aasman'), it's another remarkable presentation by versatile Sukhwinder Singh and promises to be the pivotal aspect of this youthful suspense thriller. The soundtrack is about changing phases and shades of life emoted in soft-pitched modulating tones and overtones. This may not be one of Sukhwinder's finest numbers of all-time but positively it's an offering thematically touched in the narrative flows of the film. 'Chhodon Naa Yaar', a low profile entertainer has some surprising moments in chartbusting "Talwar Re" and impressive "Luta Hai Zaamanae Ne" while the rest of the numbers fare from average to poor in their compositions and presentations. Daler Mehndi delivers one of his finest "filmi" tracks in "Talwar Re" and is expected to be the brightest aspect in the film's promotion and box office success. Anand Raj Anand delivers another average album after the mediocre success of 'Shootout At Lokhandwala' and 'Big Brother'. It's unlikely to pose any major threat to the best-selling Bollywood musical albums but can be a benchmark for the success of its chartbusting number "Talwar Re". Various Sources -->
